If you’ve followed dozens of diets and lost weight only to put it back on each time, you probably don’t know what’s right anymore, which way is up and which of the different eating rules to follow.
There are so many eating plans out there and each celebrity wants to share their secrets to weight loss.
And that’s the points it’s THEIR weight loss secrets. It’s what works for them. And it may not work for you.
Oprah has a chef at home. Rebel Wilson hired a personal trainer, Adele hired both. The contestants on World’s Biggest Loser work out for 7 hours a day with their personal coach and have a dietician.
Even in industries where body shape and size make or break an individual, an athlete training for a marathon eats differently to an athlete training for world’s strongest woman who eats differently to a ballet dancer. And a clothes model eats differently to a film actor.
One size does not fit all.
Let alone if we add to that the judgement from our childhood or on various media channels that make us feel humiliated, quickly followed by an ad to get us to eat or drink some more food!
And so we hold the shame and guilt and continue to slavishly follow the rules of the latest fad diet no matter how awful it makes us feel, no matter how hungry we are and then we blame ourselves when it doesn't work. It’s no wonder we have lost touch with our bodies and our sense of self.
It’s time to re-connect, re-learn and re-envision.
Scientists are only just now learning how the body loses weight and some of the problems with losing weight and we are only now learning that a lot of the advice we’ve been fed up to now isn’t true - low fat diets, eat less, exercise more. Most people who lose weight don’t keep it off, so therefore ‘diets’ don’t work.
Those who are successful at maintaining their weight loss have re-imagined their lifestyle, re-evaluated what is important to them in life and re-considered their eating habits.
Weight loss success is an holistic process. It’s about digging deep and understanding how you got to where you are now and undoing those habits and beliefs that are keeping you here. It’s serious change from within, not just following someone else’s eating rules.
When you work on you holistically, you’ll get to own your body, love your body and nurture your body. You’ll start to eat with and for your body rather than eating with your mind. You'll start to notice
- what REALLY makes you feel good, how different foods make you feel physically and emotionally. What type of movement motivates and supports your mind and body.
- what environments and which people support your new healthy habits and which trigger old sabotaging habits.
- what thoughts and beliefs are holding you back and keeping you in this yo-yo pattern.
It’s an opportunity to accept and love the person you are now, an occasion to heal, a juncture to decide who you are, a chance to rebrand.
A chance to rewrite the rules for YOUR body.
To create your own diet.
To feel empowered, in harmony and find freedom from food.
Three things you can do right now to start re-thinking YOUR food rules:
- Record when you eat, what made you decide to eat, what foods you chose to eat, how they made you feel.
- Write your food story - all the sayings about food, eating habits and people’s attitudes to food that you grew up with
- Analyse the different diets you’ve tried and what you enjoyed about them, what you find easy about them and how they would work as a way to eat for the rest of your life.
If you would like to start working on unravelling your food story, creating new habits and writing the rules that are perfect for your body, then message me and we can arrange a time to chat and explore if we are the right fit to support you to make those changes.
